1、 Project Background: Resolving Djibouti's Energy Crisis

In 2015, the Republic of Djibouti faced severe energy challenges: the national electricity coverage rate was less than 50%, and areas outside the capital relied on diesel generators for power supply, with electricity prices reaching as high as $0.25 per kilowatt hour, and frequent power outages restricting economic development. As the fulcrum of the "the Belt and Road" in Africa, the government of Djibouti has launched the "2035 universal power coverage" plan to give priority to the development of distributed photovoltaic. Our company has won the Djibouti rooftop photovoltaic project with an installed capacity of 198kW, leveraging our 330 watt polycrystalline solar panel technology advantage accumulated in the African market, becoming our first large-scale public building photovoltaic demonstration project in the country.

(1) Component selection: A cost-effective African solution

The project adopts 330 watt polycrystalline silicon components, and its core advantages include:

High temperature performance: The temperature coefficient of polycrystalline silicon is -0.45%/℃, which is 12% lower than that of single crystal components. It is suitable for Djibouti's annual high temperature environment of 35 ℃, and the measured power attenuation rate is only 0.8%/year;

Anti dust design: double-layer glass packaging with IP67 protection level, maintaining 98% light transmittance in areas with frequent sandstorms;

Weak light response: Under low irradiation conditions in the morning and evening, the power generation efficiency is 7% higher than that of single crystal modules.

(2) System integration innovation

Develop a modular support system based on the architectural characteristics of Djibouti:

Lightweight design: using aluminum alloy brackets, the unit area load is reduced by 40% compared to traditional steel brackets, suitable for thin roofed buildings in Djibouti;

Quick installation: The prefabricated buckle structure allows for a daily installation volume of 200 pieces, reducing the project duration to 45 days;

Intelligent operation and maintenance: equipped with a remote monitoring system, real-time monitoring of component temperature, output power and other parameters, reducing fault response time to 2 hours.

During the project, a "Photovoltaic Technology Africa Tour" training was conducted to train many technical engineers for the Djibouti Ministry of Energy.

Emission reduction data: Annual power generation of 324000 kWh, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 258 tons, equivalent to planting 14000 trees;

Water resource conservation: Replacing diesel power generation saves 150000 liters of water annually, alleviating Djibouti's freshwater shortage problem.

(1) Extreme climate response

Sand and dust protection: Developed a self-cleaning coating to reduce the amount of dust adhering to the surface of components by 60%, and extended the cleaning cycle to 3 months;

Salt spray corrosion: Made of 316L stainless steel bracket, it has served in coastal areas for 5 years without corrosion.

(2) Grid compatibility

Voltage fluctuation adaptation: The dynamic adjustment range of the inverter is ± 15%, which solves the problem of voltage fluctuations in the Djibouti power grid;
